Living Wax Museum
Second grade presented today to our kindergarten students about the historical figures they researched. They did an amazing job and our young friends learned a lot from us. See if you recognize some of these innovators and inventors.

GCISD Pre-K & Kindergarten Registration Information 2017-2018
It's that time of year when we communicate to all of our Cannon families about registration their Pre-K and/or Kindergarten students that will be enrolling in school for the 2017-18 school year! Please help by including this information in all of your parent communications!
GCISD Pre-K Registration for the 2017-18 school year on April 17- 21 from 8:00 a.m.-3:30 p.m. or on April 18 (late hours) 4:00 p.m.-7:00 p.m.

Zoo Visit

Rock Your Socks - 3/21 - World Down Syndrome Day
World Down Syndrome Day is on Tuesday, 3/21! 3.21 represents the third copy of the 21st chromosome which is what causes Down syndrome. Communities all over the world will be celebrating the acceptance and inclusion of people who have Down syndrome by Rocking
their Socks!
On March 21st in GCISD, we will "Rock Your Socks" by encouraging students & staff to wear different socks, brightly colored socks, long socks, printed socks, mismatched socks, or any kind of fun socks in honor of our friends who rock an extra chromosome!

YOU ART WHAT YOU EAT CONTEST The Texas Department of Agriculture (TDA) invites students to enter its 2nd Annual You ART What You Eat art competition for a chance to earn statewide recognition for themselves and our school. The winners' artwork will inspire designs used in posters, social media ads and other materials that TDA makes available to all Texas schools celebrating National School Lunch Week and School Breakfast Week. Also, TDA displays the artwork from winners and finalists in the Texas Capitol. Entries will be accepted March 13 - May 15, 2017.

This week we read Jamie O' Rourke books by Tomie de Paola. Today we had an engineering challenge that tied in with the books. They had to build a bridge for a leprechaun out of only 70 pennies.

Student Showcase
We have busy working on creating animal habitats that will meet the needs of the animals we researched. Once we finish our habitats we are creating digital presentations for our parents to teach them about special characteristics our animals have that help them meet their needs in their habitats. We can't wait to show our projects off at the Student Showcase Thursday night.

In order for us to determine how many spaces in each grade level at Cannon will be offered through the lottery, it is very important that we collect information from all of our families about your plans for next year. Please note that any student currently enrolled at Cannon through a previous year's lottery does NOT need to apply for the lottery again this year, as they will continue to be enrolled at Cannon through 5th grade.
