Light Energy

We have been exploring light energy this week. Students learned that light travels in a straight line and reflects off of a mirror. A curved surface reflects the light differently than a flat surface and makes our face look silly or even upside down! Have you ever looked at your reflection in a spoon or a funhouse mirror?

We need your help!

Parents, I need your help before Oct. 31st.  The children in Mrs. Step's and Mrs. Ganus' class entered a contest through Lego Education.  This is a project that we have been working on for the past 5 weeks ( some groups got done while some did not).  The children created their own story or changed the ending to one of Mo Willems Pigeon books.  We have now submitted our finished projects into the contest to try and win some Lego starter kits and autographed books by Mo Willems, but in order to do that we have to get as many "Likes" as we can on our projects by Oct. 31st.  I have included below the instructions on how to do this with a list of our projects!  We would appreciate any help you can give us where we can proceed on to the next level for a chance to win.  Thank you!
Project titles:
New ending to the Pigeon finds a hot dog.
Don't let the pigeon be a superhero
Don't let the pigeon go to China
The pigeon wants candy
Don't let the pigeon drive the truck
Don't let the pigeon play basketball
New ending to don't let the pigeon stay up late
Don't let the pigeon press the button

Help!!!!
Second grade will be engineering instruments in a week and a half.  We really need help with some of the supplies.  If you have any empty tissue boxes, empty paper towel rolls, empty toilet paper rolls, and any paper cylinders (oatmeal container).  We thank you in advance for your help.  Your student may come home for this project and ask for some additional supplies for their specific instrument.  We can't wait to show off the instruments on STEM night in November.
Thanks!!

Playdough STEM Kick Off

Today 2nd grade had a visit from Mrs. Marshall our PPCD teacher here at Cannon. She told us how important playdough is in her classroom.  She asked us to help her develop a high quality playdough for her class.  We will have to use chemical engineering and our knowledge of matter to help us achieve this task.

Celebrate National Walk to School Day with your child this week by walking to school on Wednesday.  Either walk to school with your family and neighbors or join one of our school waling groups!  We will have two large groups that will meet to walk together.  One group will meet at the parking lot of the First United Methodist Church, on the corner of Church St. & College St.  The other group will meet at the corner of Dogwood Dr. and College St.  Both groups will have staff members walking with students.  They will meet between 7:00-7:15 and will begin walking to school at 7:15.  Hope you can join us!
