Today we read a book about how P.T. Barnum marched 21 elephants on to the Brooklyn Bridge to prove it was sound.  Then we engineered craft stick bridges and tested how much weight they could hold.  Check out these bridges.

Today we talked about what good teams do to be successful.  After brainstorming we tried out our ideas with the Saving Fred Teamwork Challenge. 

Independence Day Effective Monday, August 29th, we will declare Independence Day at Cannon! This means that parents & other guests will no longer be allowed to escort their children to class after this date. They will be expected to drop off their children in the car line out front or walk them to the front entrances, but not go through the security doors.

Are you ready?  It's almost time for our new school year and I couldn't be more excited!!  In just two short weeks, our Cannon Cubs will begin their 2016-2017 school year and as the proud principal of Cannon Elementary: A GCISD STEM School, I can't wait to welcome you and your child back to school! 

Please make sure that you have registered your child for this school year, by completing the online enrollment. Click here to access the information on the GCISD website that you will need, in order to enroll your child.   Please note that on Wednesday, August 10th, from 8:00-3:00 & 4:00-7:00 pm, our Cannon office will be open for any new families that need to register.  Parents of returning students that need to complete enrollment or need assistance with enrollment can also stop in on this date.  Your child will NOT be added to a class list until the enrollment process has been completed.  This year's registration process has been improved to make the enrollment process easier for our families and it allows you to do everything online, including residency verification!  Please let us know if you have any questions or need assistance!  Call the office at 817-251-5680 and our awesome Cannon staff will be happy to help you in any way! 

Also, please mark your calendars for our Meet the Teacher Night event!  We can't wait to see all of our Cannon Cubs on Thursday, 8/18 from 6:00-7:00 pm at this event!  Class lists will be posted by 5:30 pm in the windows at the front of the school on 8/18, so that you can find out who your child's teacher will be this year!  Our wonderful PTA will be on hand, in front of the school, prior to our Meet the Teacher Night, beginning at 5:00 pm, to greet our families with a "cool treat" as they arrive! 

Finally, please mark your calendars for 8/22 - the first day of school!  As a reminder, GCISD has adjusted elementary school hours this year to 7:40-2:55.  Our PTA will be hosting a Tears & Cheers breakfast for parents in the library on the first day of school from 7:45-8:30, so please make plans to stop in for a breakfast treat and to meet other Cannon families!
